Daniel Fridman

Name: Daniel Fridman
Age: 36
Country: Germany
World rank: No. 78

Daniel is the German number two and with a current rating of 2667 Elo is ranked number 78 in the world. In his personal life Daniel is married to female grandmaster Anna Zatonskih, who for years now has played for the women’s OSG Baden-Baden team. Along with Arkadij Naiditsch and Georg Meier he was a part of the German national team that sensationally won the European Team Championship in 2011. Daniel moved to Germany with his family in 1999 and is a multiple German Champion. One of his greatest achievements as a junior was claiming third place at the U16 World Youth Championship, level on points with the now supergrandmaster Peter Svidler. He became an international grandmaster in 2001.

The list of his tournament victories is long and features not only classical chess but also blitz, in which he’s feared worldwide. He first played for the German national team in 2008, when he had the team’s best individual performance.

The German number two is very glad to have been invited to the GRENKE Chess Classic and witness the revival of the tradition of holding tournaments in Baden-Baden. Although Daniel is by no means the tournament favourite, he’ll spare no effort to post a good result.
