Michael Adams

Name: Michael Adams
Age: 41
Country: England
World rank: No. 23

Michael “Mickey” Adams is a welcome guest at all the world’s top tournaments. The likeable Englishman is currently ranked 23rd in the world with a 2725 Elo rating.

In 1989, at the age of just 17, he became an international grandmaster and won his first British Championship. He later followed that up with numerous national titles and was often voted “player of the year” in his home country. He’s frequently competed against the world’s best in the World Championship cycle and even reached the final of the FIDE WCh in 2004, only to lose to his OSG Baden-Baden teammate Rustam Kasimdzhanov after a tough fight.

At the 2012 London Chess Classic he defeated the reigning World Champion Viswanathan Anand, who he’ll meet again in Baden-Baden. Mickey is an excellent positional player and a serious candidate to win the GRENKE Chess Classic.
